⚠️ DRAFT — not yet legally reviewed. This policy is a working
draft and must be reviewed and finalized by a qualified attorney before
launch. Bracketed [TODO] items need real company details.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how the Pass the Note website handles information when you visit it or join our waitlist. Pass the Note is operated by [TODO: legal entity name] ("we", "us"). The Pass the Note app — the messaging product for families — is not yet available and will publish its own, fuller children's privacy policy that complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This website is intended for parents and other adults (18+).
1. What we collect
- Your email address, only if you choose to join the waitlist.
- Basic technical logs created automatically by our hosting provider (e.g. timestamps, requested pages) to operate and secure the site.
We do not run accounts, advertising trackers, or third-party analytics on this site, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children here.
2. How we use it
We use your email for a single purpose: to notify you when Pass the Note is ready and to share occasional, related launch updates. That's it.
3. What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your information.
- We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
4. Service providers
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and stores waitlist emails (Cloudflare KV). Subject to Cloudflare's terms and privacy practices.
- Google Fonts — serves the site's typeface; your browser requests the font from Google, which receives your IP address as part of that request. [TODO: consider self-hosting the font to avoid this.]
5. Children's privacy
This website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this site. If you believe a child has submitted information here, contact us and we will delete it. The forthcoming Pass the Note app is designed to be COPPA-compliant — accounts are parent-provisioned and verifiable parental consent is required before a child can use it.
6. Data retention
We keep waitlist emails until launch and for [TODO: retention period] afterward, then delete them. You can ask us to delete your email at any time.
7. Your choices and rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your email by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or the EU/UK GDPR. [TODO: confirm applicable-jurisdiction language with counsel.]
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
